• Where in the world would you like to canoe? Explore the paddling page for ideas about where to canoe (http://www.gorp.com/gorp/activity/paddling/pad_guid.htm). Choose a lake somewhere in North America. Learn about the lake and locate it on the map. Use mapquest (http://mapquest.com) to find out how far the lake is from your town.
• On one of the pages, you can see a reflection off the lake. Look at your reflection in some water. Use outside light or a light over a tub of water to see how reflections are made. Draw a picture with a reflection.
• Listen to music that reminds you of the water on a lake.
• Make a list of the plants and animals you see on the book including fish, frogs, water bugs, mallards, deer, fox, raccoon, snake, dragonfly, badger, butterfly, and the blue heron. Use the Internet (http://www.yahooligans.com) to find out more about this plant or animal. Create a bulletin board of a lake containing these elements. Put information on the bulletin board.
• Create a canoe mobile showing the history of canoes.
• Make a poster showing other good summer activities.
