Cave Valley Hike
One of the things we love about our campground is the hikes led by Jim and Sue Ann. Unfortunately, we've been so busy this winter that we missed all the formal hikes. Jim encouraged us to join him for one of the last hikes of the winter season. |
Voted as one of the favorite hikes by the hiking group at our RV park, the Cave Valley Hike begins with a walk across an open area to the base of steep rock walls. |
As we walked through the underbrush we looked up to see the many strange formations carved naturally into the rock. One looks just like a mummy.
|
When we reached the top, we were treated to many wonderful rocks and trees that begged to be photographed. |
We worked our way along the slick rocks enjoying great views of the valley below and the famous Zion landscape in the distance. The photo on the left shows Annette exploring one of the many rock outcroppings.

At one point, Annette and Jim climbed to the top of one of the many jumbles of rocks. It was pretty high, so Annette decided to sit down.
The rest of the group was cheering her on from a low, safe distance.

There were endless opportunities for "artsy" shots of rocks, plants, trees, valleys, mountains, and even people.
|
After a great morning of hiking, we took a break for lunch. Some people took the opportunity to eat, while others explored, photographed, or sketched the scenery.
|
|
On the way back, Jim decided to take us a different way. From the photo below, you can tell it wasn't the "easy way" back that we had anticipated. |

We were amazed at how far we could see.

Cave Valley Rock Art The grand finale came with the exploration of two caves. Unfortunately much of the rock art has been defaced, but it was still an exciting way to end the day.
|
Just the Beginning The Cave Valley area has many great places to hike. Now that we're familiar with the area, we look forward to coming back for more!
