Snow Day

We generally think of March as the beginning of Spring rather than the middle of winter. We'd had a mild winter, so we thought we wouldn't see any snow. However, we woke up one morning to a winter wonderland.

Snow Day

We declared a personal snow day. What a great opportunity to explore Zion National Park! We drove through the park past the lodge to parking lot at the end of the canyon. After putting on our coats and gloves, we started down the trail in the snow.

The snow was piled on the rocks, fences, and trees. The huge flakes made it fun to photograph.

We particularly enjoyed the views from the river and were amazed at the way the snow stuck to the ledges and rocks.

There were places that the snow was deep, but it was easy to brush off so we didn't get wet.

She also pretended to eat a giant snow cone and made snow angels.

We took dozens of photographs of the yellow, orange, and brown leaves against the bright white fields of snow.

Along with the red rocks, the contrast of the early spring green grass and undergrowth with the white snow made great photographic moments.

Deer snowOne of the highlights of the day was spying a deer in the snow. We watched as she stood up from her resting place and walked through the deep snow.

Our final destination was Pine Valley. Just a couple weeks earlier we'd enjoyed a warm spring walk along the creek. Today we slide down the slope to photograph the bridge in the snow. Although we enjoy spring, it's always fun to find time for a snow day!
