Carmel School (K – 8th grade, Franklin County Community School Corporation, IN) for three years. Laura says, "I have enjoyed the change from the classroom to the library.  I love sharing about the books I read and connecting students with books that interest them."

Laura's undergraduate studies were completed at Indiana State University (1992) in special education – mild disabilities. She earned a Masters degree in Reading from Ball State University in 1999.  After her first son was born in 2001, she decided to pursue a Masters degree in Library Science. Laura graduated from the IUPUI-SLIS media specialist program in 2005 with a Masters degree and School Media Specialist Certification.

She is a member of ILF / AIME and ALA.

Laura's Perspective (Sept 2010):
"I want students to have the opportunity to have books so they can become better readers. Book fairs are conducted each year at the schools to give students the opportunity to purchase their own books. The school library hosted its first book swap. A reading program was implemented for the summer to encourage students to continue reading through the summer months. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to plan author visits for the students at Mt. Carmel School. The students love meeting the authors and hearing their message. These visits have helped spark an interest in reading in some of the reluctant readers."

This photo of Laura and son, Nate, was taken in August on the first day of school.
